About us

Ecolect was created to solve a problem. Think back to a time when sustainability was not a buzz word. Back in 2006 we began to think about ways we could our design and architecture peers integrate sustainability into their everyday practice. At the time, and still today, it’s hard to find good, eco friendly material options. There’s very little guidance on what the best materials are, where to get them, or what the best approach is to ecological design.

What if we could take away all of the hassle, headache, and frustration in sourcing eco materials? What if we could educate and inspire designers, architects, and engineers to use better, more effective materials? Ecolect was officially born in 2007 and announced at a launch party held at the Swiss Consulate in San Francisco, CA to coincide with the International Conference for the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) that weekend.

Today, we offer a mobile materials exhibition and other forms of education, as well as consulting services for companies who have specific and immediate challenges. We have come a long way but we have much father to go. Choosing to work with us and engage in our services means supporting a crucial mission to advance sustainability. It’s also an opportunity to invest in a team of people who work everyday to scout far and wide, finding the latest and greatest new options. We have our finger on the pulse of what’s new, what’s sustainable, and we’d love to continue growing the database, making better options available, and always inspiring a new, improved way to design and produce!
